CBD Explained

Let's start with hemp ...

hemp, (Cannabis sativa), also called industrial hemp, plant of the family Cannabaceaecultivated for its bast fibre or its edible seeds. Hemp is sometimes confused with the cannabis plants that serve as sources of the drug marijuana and the drug preparation hashish. Although all three products—hemp, marijuana, and hashish—contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a compound that produces psychoactive effects in humans, the variety of cannabis cultivated for hemp has only small amounts of THC relative to that grown for the production of marijuana or hashish. Our broad spectrum CBD has all of the THC filtered out.

Hemp and Marijuana’s main difference lies in the THC content.

CBD has trivial amounts of THC so it is completely legal in the United Kingdom. To legally sell CBD Oil in the UK, it must contain less than 0.2% THC. All Ciento products derived from hemp and meet the permitted THC standards as set by the UK Government and contain 0% THC.

The most severe side effect of CBD that we have heard of is slight drowsiness in some people. It’s always best to follow our instructions for use that are on the bottle. If you notice any adverse reactions, such as a dry mouth, low blood pressure or severe drowsiness then stop all use of the product immediately and consult your GP.

Cannibidiol (CBD)

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical compound found in the cannabis sativa plant. It is the primary cannabinoid in the hemp plant, not to be confused with the marijuana plant where THC is the primary cannabinoid. Both hemp and marijuana do share similar characteristics though which is where common misconceptions around CBD arise from. They both come with over 100 cannabinoids that are non-psychoactive (don’t get you ‘high’) such as CBD, CBG or CBC.Cannabidiol is the most studied compound of the cannabinoids. As such, it has become widely used by those seeking a new approach to every day health and wellbeing.

The Endocannabinoid System

The ECS is located inside every person, whether you use CBD products or not. It is a network of cannabinoid receptors that stretch throughout the entire body. The ECS works closely with both our central nervous system and our peripheral nervous system. Endocannabinoids are produced by your body and are used as and when they are needed.

Cannabinoid receptors can be found all over the human body. There are two types of cannabinoid receptors – CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors help regulate many functions related to our central nervous system, while CB2 receptors manage the abilities associated with our peripheral nervous system.

How Does It Help?

CBD helps our bodies to maintain homeostasis.

In other words; to maintain a healthy state of balance and internal stability. CBD molecules usually bind to CB2 receptors. When these molecules attach to the receptors, they transmit signals that travel through your cells – ultimately affecting the cells that surround tissue, the tissues inside an organ, and the many organs of the body.

Full Spectrum or Broad Spectrum

CBD oil made of a mix of carrier oil (usually coconut oil) and phytocannibnoids which occur naturally in adult hemp flowers and their leaves.

Full Spectrum: Full Spectrum CBD contains many different cannabinoids and terpenes that are left in CBD formulations to provide "the entourage effect." The entourage effect is a theory that the more terpene compounds a person consumes, the better each individual compound works. Full Spectrum CBD products, unlike broad spectrum CBD products, contain trace amounts of THC (< 0.2 %).

Broad Spectrum: Broad Spectrum CBD products are the same but do not contain the psychoactive compound THC so they won't give you a ‘high.'

What dose is right for me?

Dosage preferences are completely contingent on an individual’s weight, condition, endocannabinoid system and personal preference. Therefore, we can only offer a guideline. The choice of dosage and frequency of use is completely in the hands of the consumer. Please see our guideline beside this.
